CCIE DATA CENTER

Cisco’s CCIE Data Center certification is one of the most prestigious and respected certifications in IT. It is designed for senior network engineers, network architects, network managers and other networking professionals who are involved in the implementation, operation and troubleshooting of complex data center infrastructures. Achieving your CCIE Data Center certification validates your expert-level knowledge, and will put you among a group of the most sought-after and valued professionals in the industry.

Certification Step One: Written Exam

The first step towards certification is a two-hour written exam with 90-110 questions that will validate your expertise in foundational data center topics as well as an Evolving Technologies section that will test your knowledge of emerging technologies such as cloud, IoT and software defined networking.

Certification Step Two: Lab Exam

The CCIE lab exam is a hands-on exam lasting eight hours which will test your ability to configure and troubleshoot a variety of data center topologies. There are two parts to the 8-hour lab exam to be taken in sequence. Part 1 is the diagnostic written module (one hour) and part 2 is the configuration and troubleshooting hands-on module (seven hours). To complete your certification, the lab exam must be passed within three years of passing your written exam, and your first attempt must be made within the first 18 months.

Exams

The CCIE Data Center Certification requires candidates to pass two exams: the written exam and the lab-based exam.

Exam 1: CCIE Data Center Written

Exam Number: 400-151
Associated Certifications: CCIE Data Center
Duration: 120 minutes (90-110 questions)
Available Languages: English

Exam Description

The CCIE Data Center Written exam assesses knowledge on various aspects of planning, implementing and troubleshooting data center topics as listed in the exam topics. CCIE Data Center unifies Written and Lab exam topics documents into a unique curriculum, while explicitly disclosing which domains pertain to which exam, and the relative weight of each domain.

An Evolving Technologies section is included in the Written exam only. It will enable candidates to bridge their core technology expertise with knowledge of the evolving technologies that are being adopted at an accelerated pace, such as cloud, IoT, and network programmability.

Exam 2: CCIE Data Center Lab

Exam Number: v2.0
Associated Certifications: CCIE Data Center
Duration: 8 Hours to Complete 2 Sections

Exam Description

CCIE Data Center Lab is a two-part eight-hour timed exam that tests the candidate’s skills in diagnosing, configuring and troubleshooting a complex data center topology. Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting are important skills and candidates are expected to configure and troubleshoot issues as part of the CCIE Data Center Lab exam.

CCIE Data Center unifies Written and Lab exam topics documents into a unique curriculum, while explicitly disclosing which domains pertain to which exam, and the relative weight of each domain.

Lab Environment

Cisco documentation is available on-line during the exam, however knowledge of the more common protocols and technologies is assumed. The documentation can only be navigated using the index, as the search function has been disabled. No outside reference materials are permitted in the lab room. You must report any suspected equipment issues to the proctor during the exam; adjustments cannot be made once the exam is over.

Lab Exam Grading

Each question on the lab has specific criterion. The labs are graded by proctors who ensure all the criterion are met and points are awarded accordingly. The proctors use automatic tools to gather information from the routers to perform some preliminary evaluations, but the final determination of a correct or incorrect configuration is done by a trained proctor.

Lab Format

The lab is 8 hours in total and consists of 2 parts. The first part is a 1 hour, written diagnostic module, the second is a 7 hour, hands-on configuration and troubleshooting module. Candidates are not allowed to borrow time, or go back and forth between modules during the exam.
